Volkswagen Bus Train

Volkswagen Bus Train

Volkswagen camper bus with no steering wheel designed in 1955 to meet the need for compact service vehicles that provide railway maintenance.

Instead of creating new vehicle from scratch, the solution was to adapt the versatile Volkswagen Transporter to a rail chassis.

1955 Klv-20 rail bus, a rare “barndoor” Bulli, was created for the Deutsche Bundesbahn’s service needs.

VW Bus on rails allowed for efficient inspection and repair trips on the railways, showcasing Volkswagen’s great engineering.

By combining a T1 Kombi body with a rail chassis, the Klv-20 features efficient 21 kW engine and unique hydraulic lifting mechanism.
