Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama gave thousands of stickers to kids and adults of different ages and asked them to decorate a room.
After a few weeks, completely white room was transformed into beautiful art installation: The Obliteration Room. [photos by Mark Sherwood]

Oh my gosh STICKERS!!! That looks like so much fun! It used to be so nice to get stickers from the doctor’s office.

Fun activity, but reminds me too much of ‘graffiti room’, which also gave me a headache. Worthy of an art and craft room for kids, but… not much else. I mean, it’s nice that people got to have fun, but it’s like being high and telling everyone else you’re high. I really… don’t care.

I think this is one of those things that it’s only fun if you’re actually there. And I wouldn’t like the idea of having stickers all over everything (especially when they start peeling off). If they had painted the dots… and kept the dots off the furniture… that might be interesting.

Yah, this is a cool idea but as a mom I kind of shudder at the idea of stickers all over everything. Perhaps if they had just bought poke-a-dot fabric for the couch instead?
@gunneos, graffiti room made my head hurt too. I’ve seen some great graffiti but just tagging alone doesn’t qualify in my mind. There is so much more to the expression of this art form than that and I really think it could have been done better.

@gunneos/Gert, yeah and yeah. Random frivolity as art? Come take a picture of my messy room.

They should lock a person in that place with a strobing black light and blaring dubstep and see how long they can last.

I love this idea! But I think the final output was too much. The first pictures showed “tastefully” placed stickers on the wall, giving minimal but artistic sense to everything. That’s my opinion. :D

They did one of these at GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) in Brisbane last year. I think it’s awesome, but I kind of wondered whether kids were getting the idea they could put their stickers on other exhibitions :-) I don’t think it was a problem though.
